By 2003, with the introduction of Senior and Junior Secondary Schools in Lagos, the school was split into two with the new name “Surulere Senior Secondary School” under the headship of Mrs. O.O. Carena.
VISION
To create a conducive environment for teaching and learning that fosters self-improvement and development of a child.
MISSION
To provide different types of strategies, activities, and experiences for young people.
CORE VALUES: discipline, diligence and integrity. Student are groomed to be well rounded academically, morally, socially and spiritually
The school is known for academic excellence this is reflected in in our steady excellent performances in WASSCE result over the years.
Our unique achievement is not only on academic performances of the students, we also emphasize moral upright as prerequisite to sustain them in whatever academic pursuit or performances they have achieved or will achieve in the future. Our consistent effort and persuasion to uphold morality in all aspect of their lives yielded a positive result this year 2020. The students decided on their own to give their classes a befitting look with a beautiful touch of painting and decoration without the involvement of the school authority.
In the implementation of first session of boys conversation Café sponsored by Diamond Bank in conjunction with WARIF Women At Risk International Foundation in 2018/2019 session the school had significant results. The programme has been able to caution and change their mindset on inappropriate behavior, there is significant drop in activities such as drug and alcohol use, clubbing. Based on their active participation in the WARIF EDUCATIONAL SCHOOL PROGRAMME our students were invited to participate in fitness walk to campaign against violence against woman in January 2020.
Mentor and mentee programmer is also one of our unique achievements in the school. This is a programme where students are assigned to teachers for mentorship on their academic, moral, social and spiritual life, this programme made tremendous impact in the lives of student positively.
The role of critical thinking and problem solving skills which are part and parcel of our teaching and learning methods is also a great achievement to our success story; Critical thinking and problem solving are considered key skills for this uncertain future, especially considering how remote work seems to become more and more popular as the years go by. In the future, workers will be likely selected based on their ability to be independent from micro-managing and able to work with less supervision and even away from the office.
The school is presently having a population of five hundred and twenty students (520) with twenty-one (21) teachers and one (1) non-teaching staff under the headship of the principal Mrs. A.O. Aina.

THE NIGERIAN TULIP INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE

The Nigerian Tulip International College is a brand that Nigerian parents and all those who value sound or good education readily identify with. The college’s accomplishments in the promotion of sound education has been underscored by the quality of high school graduates that it continually produce. This is not a surprise to many parents who are aware of the much premium the school places on sound education and high moral standard. Over the last decade, the management of the school have been able to institutionalise a number of concepts within the school educational system. For example, for well over a decade, teachers’ primary duty in the school has been student-centred learning and teaching. Lessons are planned and delivered with the students’ benefits as the first and the major goal. The management have also incorporated the use of multimedia that are in it. Otherwise, such institutions soon lose relevance and become obsolete while the world moves ahead. Institutions that remain relevant in the business are those that always incorporate new trends or new measures for the clients benefit. To continue to remain relevant, therefore, and maintain our high standard, NTIC has always incorporated tested and trusted new and modern trends into her teachings. This tradition led to the school investing so much on the teaching staff, (the most important element among the learning variables). At the moment, NTIC investment in the continuous capacity improvement programmes for the teaching staff is second to none among secondary schools in Nigeria. Seminars and workshops are continually organised to ensure that our teachers stay abreast of the most recent or latest and best practices, approaches to modern, or twenty-first century teaching. In all the workshops, resource persons are invited both locally and from top United Kingdom Universities, while the input of the more experienced teachers in the house complement the efforts. The emphasis in all the workshops and seminars has always been – the modern trends in education and the most effective measures in academic administrations.
Apart from the continuous infrastructural developments in different sections of the school, teachers capacity improvement programmes, the strong feedback mechanism, well-structured moral and guidance department, and several others already introduced, the is one of the areas the management of the school is strengthening, as the school is reaching on to greater glories in the years ahead.
The perfection of the school online lessons is another area of much interest and definitely, of greater benefit to both students and teachers. Students being at home on holiday or a break is not the end of all academic engagements in NTIC. The school started the use of online lesson connecting all the students to their class even while on holiday and thousands of kilometres away from the school. All that this takes is just a click of the button and a secure internet connection on any 3G communicative device. This well-moderated online lesson has been in operation in the school since 2019 and the school management is putting in place several attendance monitored, structured timetable, and distraction control measures. All of these are steps to ensure the perfection of measures, which ensure that while at home or away on vacation, our students and teachers, can always have their lessons. Besides, there are online platforms that they can also take examinations on the subject and topics already taken online. This has put NTIC well ahead of others in the use of virtual lessons for greater benefit.

OBMS…SUCCESS WORTHY OF EMULATION

Out of many schools in Nigeria and in Africa, Oritamefa Baptist Model School, since its birth in 1996, has consistently been a point of reference in terms of quality education, effective teaching and mentoring, and zero tolerance against indiscipline and examination malpractices. This, to a large extent, is consequent upon the fact that the school is established to help salvage the current decadence in the country’s educational sector by providing a platform where students from various ‘cadres of life’ could be given equal representation, and by producing students thoroughly formed into competent, assiduous, and patriotic men and women who are truly ready to unite the nation. Thus, without any misgivings, OBMS is ranked as the best school in the South-Western Nigeria, and one of the best secondary schools in and outside the country.
Based on academic awards and accolades, OBMS students have distinguished themselves not only as true custodians of integrity, but also as perfect ambassadors of excellence. Our students are adequately equipped with basic academic skills. This is evident in their outstanding performances in WASSCE and other external examinations. In 2003, one of our students emerged as the 2nd overall best student in WASSCE in West Africa. Equivalent feats were recorded in 2010 (Best female WASSCE candidate), in 2014 (1st in South West Nigeria), in 2015 (1st in Oyo State and in Nigeria), in 2016 (1st in Oyo State), and more notably, in 2017, the school produced the best male and female candidates in WASSCE, a feat unrivalled. The list is inexhaustible. All these remarkable achievements are owed to God, who has always been the pillar of the institution, and to all members of staff who have in many instances proven to be selfless, dedicated, and committed to making the school stronger and greater.
Moreover, OBMS has become a force to be reckoned with in the academic sector of Oyo State and, indeed, Nigeria since 2003. As a matter of fact, we do not only equip our students academically, we also train them to be morally upright and socially balanced. No wonder they have always been found worthy first in character and then in learning, if they want to be commended or celebrated by the school. This system engenders and encourages healthy academic rivalry and competition among our students. Suffice to state here, this is one of the ‘things’ that help our students perform excellently well in any external competitions.
Situated at Queen Elizabeth II Road, Total Garden, Ibadan, OBMS has annexe centres at Ring Road and Akobo. Online application is also available at www.oritamefabaptistschools.com/obms/admissions.php for those who desire to be part of excellence. OBMS undoubtedly is a leader, and it has in many ways expressed its leadership by constantly setting the pace for other schools, and holding the ace of academic excellence. To further convince you, check out some of our recent notable awards and prizes.
