Nov. 11-15, 2024 WEEK OF ACTION AGAINST BULLYING & VIOLENCE
IN AFRICA SCHOOLS
Theme: "Everyone Belongs, & I will Tell"
[With free support materials from the African Principals Conference to the participating Schools.]
Background: Think of the disturbing trends of bullying in Nigeria schools. The attack on notable brands, and preventable death and imprisonment of students and leaders of great schools. The 2023 baseline African Students Well-being and Bullying tracking study by the Africa Brands Review (ABR) indicates 58% of Nigeria students experience some sort of bullying yearly. 12% of students face bullying either subtly or aggressively everyday. The ABR has been conducting regular innovative workshops for the development and application of bullying prevention and intervention approaches in Africa schools.
Creating and maintaining a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment requires a whole-school approach to positive behaviors. So that all forms of bullying, aggression and violence can be prevented, mitigated or eradicated.
The Week of Action Against Bullying and Violence will give schools and supporters flexibility to plan activities that suit their schedule—whether it's spreading awareness and sensitization throughout the week or focusing on an impactful day or two.
The theme for the November 11-15, 2024 Week of Action Against Bullying & Violence is 'Everyone belongs', & I will Tell''.
When we all feel like we belong, bullying struggles to find a place. It's about embracing who we are, respecting everyone's differences and standing up together against unkindness.
Belonging means we all have a role in preventing bullying. We're encouraged to speak up and create a safe place where everyone feels supported and respected, and our voices are heard and valued.
This is an initiative of the ABR Students Well-being Ambassadors program of the African Principals Conference Initiative. We will be providing support materials for participating schools. For interest, send us name and contact details of your Schools' coordinator to [email protected] before September 30, 2024.
